General Area Type Case Study:
When combining both lighting upgrades and sensors in Distribution Centers, savings potential is largely found in the warehouse and in the open spaces. These areas are commonly overlooked for controls during upgrades because of their high activity levels. At PES we focus on gathering the most overall savings and never overlook any area types. The following chart shows the area types, with both lighting and sensor upgrade savings potential:
A common application representing 3-5% of the total building savings. Controls and lighting upgrades provide an improved work environment and convenience.
Open Office Space
Lighting upgrades improve the working environment, however an often overlooked application for controls typically provides 10% of the building’s potential savings!
An area type with fluctuating usage and often unoccupied with the lights left on. Popular application for Controls and Lighting providing 2-5% of the total building’s savings.
With long run hours, Lighting upgrades are common. An ideal application for Controls providing, 15-10% of the building’s potential savings! Sensors add convenience and an element of security.
The infrequent use makes this an ideal application for Controls, providing 5% of the buildings potential savings. A common retrofit of Incandescent to LED or Fluorescent and keeping the annual usage to a minimum with the sensors, means these lights will almost never need maintenance.
Sometimes a difficult application due to the partitioned stalls. Properly applied Microphonic technology sensors, however, resolve this issue, allowing for 5% of the building’s potentials savings. Additional savings can be obtained by controlling the exhaust fans as well.
A common misconception is that occupancy sensors cannot be installed to control lighting fixtures in a Warehouse, when in fact this measure can provide energy savings anywhere from 60-70% depending on the production schedule. PES controls the warehouses considering not only the maximum energy savings but also safety and usage.
